Chassis Restoration
The chassis was cleaned with a mild cleaner (a pine based product) and water. All the metal components as well as the tuning capacitor (which was removed for cleaning) where cleaned with a brass fiber pad (similar to steel wool), a liquid cleaner (soft scrub) and a tooth brush. After everything was dry a coat of clear lacquer was applied to seal the metal (excluding the tuning capacitor of course). The band selector tower was cleaned with 100% Di-Oxit and a cleaning swab.

Cabinet Restoration
Randy is working on a new idea for restoring the leather on the 600L series transoceanics. He purchased a leather recoloring kit from Leather Magic (www.leathermagic.com), and, using a sample of leather material from Scott McAuley (he sells replacement Stag covering material), had a custom color mixed that is just right for these radios. The custom color code is 20118 in case any one else wants to try it. The kit comes with a Preval sprayer, but Randy suggests that you use an air brush, as the Preval sprayer applies the paint a little too heavy. NOTE: The comparison pictures below are of two different cabinets, one is restored, the other hasn't been restored yet. The restored and unrestored cabinets were in similar conditions before Randy started.

Just the cleaning process used before the recoloring process made a big difference on this radio, as seen in the top right corner of the cabinet in the next picture.
